One of my favourite moments in Cold As Silk isn't a dramatic confrontation or a sweeping romantic gesture.
It's a pair of pink, fluffy, well-worn slippers.
On the surface, they're just a small detail. But sometimes the smallest details tell us the most about a person. Eleanor's late husband hated those slippers. They represented something frivolous, something he disapproved of. Over time, they became just another thing she learned to hide away.
Then Nathan notices them.
His reaction isn't grand or life-changing. He simply smiles and compliments them.
For Eleanor, that moment means more than he realises.
That's what I love about writing relationships. Not the big declarations, but the quiet moments that reveal character. The moments that show us who someone is when nobody's paying attention.
Sometimes love looks less like fireworks and more like a man looking at a pair of ridiculous pink slippers and saying, "Nice shoes."
